A built-in compressor plasma cutter integrates the power source and a high-pressure air pump in a single chassis — connect mains power and start cutting, with no external compressor. Pipe installation, steel erection, field repair and scrap demolition are exactly the "no compressed air" jobs this class exists for. The Icyrobot LGK-105AM and LGK-125AM also weld, making them true two-in-one mobile stations.

Built-in compressor: the only answer where there is no air
Outdoor pipeline work, structural erection, plant maintenance, demolition and scrap recovery all share one constraint: no compressed air. Dragging a compressor means another machine, another fuel or power supply — often simply not available. A built-in compressor puts the air supply inside the power source cabinet: plug in and cut.
The engineering question is compressor durability and stability: low-speed direct drive, vibration-damping mounts and a high-accuracy regulator/filter are what keep output pressure steady through transport vibration and long duty. When specifying, check for phase-loss protection, external-air changeover, and whether continuous flow matches the maximum cutting current.
Self-contained mobile stations
- LGK-105AM built-in compressor plasma cutter — plasma cutting plus MMA stick welding, self-contained air, runs on single-phase 220 V;
- LGK-125AM built-in compressor plasma cutter — higher output for slightly thicker plate and longer outdoor duty.
The design trade-off is explicit: a built-in 1 500 W high-pressure compressor buys complete mobility, at the cost of suitability for high-intensity continuous production. For a fixed station, an external compressor with a conventional source is more economical.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I replacing nozzles so often?
Nine times out of ten it is low gas pressure or wet, oily air; after that, too little standoff so the nozzle touches the work, and excessive arc-strike current. Diagnosing beats replacing, and costs less.
Can I use non-genuine consumables?
Not recommended. Nozzle bore and concentricity tolerances govern the arc column directly. Copy parts save money short term and cost you edge-quality drift, source over-load and eventually damaged torches.
What water goes in the chiller?
Deionised water or the manufacturer's specified antifreeze. Tap water scales and blocks torch passages; in cold climates consider freeze protection. Change the water and clean the strainer every three to six months.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long can a built-in compressor run?
The compressor has its own duty rating. For continuous high-current cutting allow cool-down intervals or switch to external air; fixed stations should use an external compressor.
