ZD7-630 Submerged Arc Welder

Submerged Arc Welder

ZD7-630 inverter multi-process arc welding power source. Design features - Compact footprint that saves valuable floor space - Penetration control advantage: deeper penetration without increasing heat input - Controllable penetration with repeatable parameter accuracy - Fast arc starting - One machine for submerged-arc welding, manual arc welding, carbon-arc gouging and electroslag welding - Good bead appearance and a wide range of matched applications - IP23S protection rating for improved safety - Heavy industrial rating: 100% duty cycle at 40 °C for severe operating conditions Applications Mainly for carbon steel and its alloys and stainless steel. Widely used in steel-structure buildings, bridges, locomotives and ships, pressure vessels, spiral-welded pipe and large forgings. Why 630 A 630 A covers the automatic welding range from 6 mm to 20 mm plate. It is the most frequently specified rating in the ZD7 series, matching the output of a single wire on typical structural work and running comfortably with an operating boom, a rotator or a positioner in an automatic welding cell.

Key Features

  • DC submerged-arc output: stable arc, deep penetration and high wire melt-off rate
  • Flux fully covers the arc: no spatter, no arc glare and very low fume
  • Good bead appearance with consistent reinforcement and width, needing almost no dressing
  • High thermal efficiency; thick plate needs a much smaller bevel or none at all
  • Integrates with booms, rotators and positioners to build automatic welding systems
  • 630 A output covering conventional automatic welding of 6-20 mm plate

Typical Applications

  • Small to medium fabrications and general steelwork
  • Pipe longitudinal and circumferential seam welding
  • Tanks and atmospheric vessels
  • Automatic welding of general machinery parts

Selection & Setup Notes

630 A is the entry current for submerged arc, covering 6–20 mm plate and the most common choice for pipe and tanks. For thicker plate see the ZD7-1000. Full sizing table in the submerged arc welder section.

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick can 630 A weld?

Single wire typically covers 6–20 mm; multi-wire or multi-pass extends capability subject to preparation and procedure qualification.

Is a flux recovery system mandatory?

Not mandatory, but the unfused fraction is large, so recovery cuts consumable cost directly and pays back quickly in production.

What preparation is needed before welding?

Bake flux to specification, clean the groove of rust, water and oil, and centre the wire with correct stick-out — the three basics for avoiding porosity and lack of fusion.
